If a criminal breaks into your house in Maryland, and gets hurt while on your property, that criminal can SUE YOU in civil court...
That's right.. If you do all the right things.. Lock your doors, set the alarm, etc.. a criminal can break into your house, damaging it all the way, and then slip and fall in your kitchen, and they can SUE YOU in CIVIL COURT (you know - the same ones that like to give millions for people complaining that their coffees are too hot?!)...
Luckily for us in Maryland, there's a bill on the table now that would protect home and business owners from being sued by criminals who are hurt on your property during the commission of a crime. Seems straight-forward common sense, right?
You would think so, but then you would not be thinking like a personal injury lawyer.... a personal injury lawyer who just happens to be a state senator representing Montgomery county, who has led the opposition of this bill.
